This is the case of this album that collects twenty-one songs coming from Casey Bill Weldon. One of the best lap steel guitar players of Pre-war blues period and an excellent singer too. He has not to be confused with Will Weldon who for a time was member of the Memphis Jug Band. He apparently married Memphis Minnie.

Coming back to Casey Bill Weldon, the few things that are known about his life come basically from an article written by Jim O’Neal and published in number 228 of Living Blues Magazine. Probably his real name was Nathan Hammond and was born on February 2, 1901 in Chanute, Kansas.

During the 30’s Casey Bill Weldon worked as backing musician for other bluesmen and his first solo recordings were released with the names of Kansas City Bill Weldon or Cassey Bill. Also with the surname of “Hawaian Guitar Wizzard”, for Vocalion and Bluebird labels. In 1936 he was also working in groups like The Hokum Boys, The Washboard Rhythm Kings or Arnett Nelson & His Hot Four. Wolf Records has again hit the nail on the head with the release of these twenty-four songs recorded between 1935 and 1938. In most songs Weldon is backed by Big Bill Broonzy on guitar and Black Bob on piano, but you will also find other musicians like Peetiestra Wheatw, Charlie McCoy, Arnett Nelson, Joshua Altheimer and Bill Settles. To get this album becomes a must and a duty for any real blues lover. ESSENTIAL.
