Vienna, Austria — October 8, 2023 — Brace yourselves for a blues extravaganza like no other! Two legends of the genre, John Primer and Magic Slim, are teaming up to release a spellbinding album titled Slow Blues CD 120107. This forthcoming release promises to be a musical journey through the heart and soul of slow blues, featuring some of the most exceptional blues songs alongside two brand-new, never-before-heard tracks.

A Historic Collaboration

John Primer, a seasoned blues artist with over three decades of experience, reflects on his remarkable journey with Wolf Records. “I believe I first met Hannes Folterbauer at Wise Fools in Chicago, IL when I was in Magic Slim’s Band sometime in 1983?” Primer recounts. “All I knew at this time was he wanted to record Magic Slim and the Teardrops. I could tell he really enjoyed our music.”

Magic Slim, a giant in the world of blues, narrates his connection with Hannes Folterbauer and Wolf Records. “The story starts in Chicago in the summer of 1986,” says Slim. “I, Hannes Folterbauer, owner of Wolf Records, went to the Wise Fools Pub to see Magic Slim & The Teardrops perform.” What followed was a life-changing encounter that led to a profound partnership between Slim, Hannes, and Wolf Records.

A Legacy of Blues

John Primer’s association with Wolf Records has been marked by a series of iconic albums. “I went on to make many more CDs with Wolf Records,” says Primer. His impressive discography includes classics like Cold Blooded Blues Man (1994), Easy Baby at the Zoo Bar (1997), It’s A Blues Life (1998), and Blue Steel (2003). Hannes even curated a “Best Of” John Primer CD, titled When They Call Me John Primer, featuring some of Primer’s finest work.

Magic Slim’s partnership with Wolf Records spanned an impressive 26 years, resulting in numerous live and studio recordings. “Slim recorded several live and studio CDs for us, mostly in Europe, but also in the U.S.,” recalls Hannes. These recordings captured Slim’s electrifying live energy, showcasing his undeniable talent.

A Tribute to Magic Slim

The forthcoming Slow Blues CD 120204 holds a special place in the hearts of both artists. It not only pays homage to the slow blues tradition but also serves as a tribute to Magic Slim and Nick Holt, who are no longer with us. The album features live recordings from the ’90s, providing a rare glimpse into the Teardrops’ musical prowess.

Magic Slim’s enduring legacy is summed up by Hannes Folterbauer, “Slim played the real, down-home Blues – he was a great singer, guitar player, showman, and always played with his own band – The Teardrops!” His contribution to blues music remains unparalleled, and this album promises to be a testament to his timeless talent.

Keeping the Blues Alive

Both John Primer and Magic Slim credit Hannes Folterbauer and Wolf Records for giving them their first big breaks. Hannes, who recently received the “Keeping the Blues Alive Award,” is hailed for his unwavering dedication to preserving and promoting the blues. Primer expresses his gratitude, “Hannes and Wolf Records have kept the Blues alive for many, many years, and I hope and pray they continue to work hard for many more years to come at helping out all the unknowns needing that one big break.”
