Biography
Vance was born in the Windy City in 1954. He is a self-taught guitarist who (in his words) has never taken a lesson. At the age of 15 West Side singer Mary Lane took him under her wing. His first gig was at the legendary 1815 Club where Howlin’ Wolf had his home base. During the seventies Vance was playing disco and it was sax man A. C. Reed who got him for his band in 1987. He learned about the life on the road in the following three years before he formed his own band, or was backing up the late and great Johnny Christian. Since 1990 he has worked under his own name all over Chicago, and in 1994 he recorded his first Wolf CD titled “Call Me” which won him a Living Blues Award.
